SAFE is the competitiveness cluster of the Southern Region – Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, specialising in the aeronautics, space, safety and security, and defence sectors. Bringing together more than 400 industrial and academic members, SAFE supports them in their innovation, growth and transformation projects, with the aim of strengthening business competitiveness and contributing to the responsible economic development of local and regional ecosystems. In this respect, SAFE positions itself more as an industry-focused cluster than as a purely technology-focused cluster.

Drawing on its dual expertise in technology and regional development, SAFE is involved in several major strategic projects across the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, including the Sud Avenir Hélico initiative with Airbus Helicopters; the Jean-Sarrail Aeronautics Cluster in Istres, focused on maintenance and flight testing, as well as the aeronautics and space innovation platform developed with the French Air and Space Academy; the Regional Drone Resource Centre (C2RD), dedicated to drone testing; and the Fabrique du Spatial initiative with Thales Alenia Space, focused on space-based applications and services.
